E-Commerce & E-Business States - Tamil Nadu E-trading in Ooty vegetables takes off Our Bureau Coimbatore, June 1 Nilgiris Horti-Tech Company Pvt Ltd (NIHTCO), a corporate member of SAFAL National Exchange of India , commenced e-trading of Ooty vegetables on Saturday. According to Mr H.N. Sivan, Director and Chief Executive Officer of NIHTCO, 3 tonnes of carrot was traded during the inaugural day of the vegetable show. “The seller, Mr Manoj, a small farmer in our vegetable consortium got a price of Rs 12/kg. The net offering was Re 1 higher than the rate quoted at the Mettupalayam vegetable mundy,” he said. The e-trading of vegetables would be held on a daily basis from next week. “This was just a trial run,” Mr Sivan said. NIHTCO members would be introducing potato, in about two weeks, after the harvest, he said and added that other vegetables such as cabbage and other exotic fruits and vegetables would be traded online within the next couple of weeks.
