Godrej standalone Q4 net up 47%

Mumbai, April 28 Godrej Consumer Products Ltd. has reported a 47 per cent growth in standalone net profit from operations for the fourth quarter of 2007-08. Net profit from before considering extraordinary adjustments was Rs 37.15 crore compared to Rs 25.26 crore for the same period last year. During the quarter, its standalone total income was Rs 215.91 crore, as against Rs 188.45 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal. In consolidated terms, its net profit rose 33 per cent to Rs 40.8 crore from Rs 30.79 crore. Its consolidated total income during the period was Rs 271.76 crore (Rs 242.41 crore).

Mr Adi Godrej, Chairman and Managing Director of Godrej Consumer Products, said: “High raw material prices were the key challenge, which we partially mitigated through increase in soap prices and good procurement management.”

On a consolidated basis, the company’s interest cost increased by 68 per cent at Rs 3.3 crore due to rise in loans availed towards new initiatives. Employee cost was also higher by 43 per cent at Rs 18.4 crore.

In March 2008, Cinthol, the company’s flagship brand, unveiled ‘24 hour confidence’ with its new range of soaps, talcs, and deodorants. Its powder hair dye was re-launched as ‘Godrej Expert Power Hair Dye’.

Mr Godrej said “In our international operations, Keyline and Rapidol continued to do well. Another acquisition in April 2008, our fourth in less than three years, was that of Kinky Group of South Africa, which provides us with an opportunity to enter into a new line of business and enabled us to expand our hair product portfolio.”
