Letters IT wave In the editorial “IT’s poised for second wave” (Business line, April 26), the author has rightly pointed out that, with some introspection, IT companies can weather the storm created by the slowdown in the US economy. India’s advantages in the industry are low costs, relative abundance of skilled software professionals, successful entrepreneurship in the industry, ability to ensure timely delivery, quality of products and services and, above all, the reputation it has created among the international users. It is, therefore, possible for the Indian IT entrepreneurs to stem the ill-effects of a downturn in the global economy by diversifying into non-US and non-Europe markets such as West Asia, Latin America, Africa and East Asia and by leveraging the business process reengineering initiatives of global companies. The Government, in its part, can help the industry by constantly upgrading the basic infrastructure required for the industry as the sustained boom can solve a number of its problems, besides increasing revenues.
