Motorola plans virtual learning kit for Bangalore

Our Bureau

Bangalore, April 16 Motorola has entered into a technology partnership with Bangalore-based NGO Parikrma Humanity Foundation to initiate a virtual learning programme using its ‘Canopy’ technology.

The technology connects Parikrma’s four learning centres for under-served children in different parts of Bangalore through a high-speed wireless network.

Virtual classrooms

It will link all the centres and bring the children together and allow sharing of video and audio feeds to enable seamless transfer of knowledge, making the idea of a virtual classroom a reality.

So, a teacher present in one centre can reach out to students in other centres too. Similarly, students across different centres can interact with each other and the teacher.

Teachers and students can make live video presentations that can be viewed by all centres. Each Parikrma centre will have remote-controlled cameras, a smart board, an LCD projector, audio equipment and a computer.

Mr Soumitra Sana, Country President, Motorola India and Managing Director, Motorola Software Group India, said this initiative will “open a completely new world of possibilities of technology, breaking all digital divide and provide a rich learning experience to children.”Mr Sana said once the initiative “gets going without any hitches,” the company will look at taking it to other parts of the country.
