‘Cash-back scheme for left-out farmers’

Vizianagaram, April 15 The Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to pay back Rs 4,000-5,000 to farmers who are not covered by the debt waiver scheme announced by the Union Government in the recent budget, if they repay the loan regularly.

The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S Rajasekhara Reddy, made the announcement at a public meeting at Locherla village in Vizianagaram district on Tuesday as a part of the “Prajapatham” programme.

Dr Reddy said that 78 lakh farmers out of a 1.05 crore, who had taken loans, would be covered by the debt waiver scheme.

The State Government wanted to help the rest too, to the extent possible.

Consequently, after examining the track record, Rs 4,000-5,000 would be returned to farmers.

Kisan SEZ

The Chief Minister promised a kisan special economic zone at Bobbili in the district.

He said all the four major irrigation projects in the district would be completed by next year and water provided to 2.20 lakh acres.

Later, he left for East Godavari to lay the foundation stone for a bridge across the Godavari linking East Godavari and West Godavari districts.
