Bengal inks pact with EmaarMGF to boost tourism

Development of hospitality units in Sundarbans planned

Our Bureau

Kolkata, April 6 EmaarMGF Land Ltd on Saturday signed an MoU with the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation Ltd (WBTDCL) and the Sunderbans Infrastructure Development Corp (SIDC) to jointly work for tourism development, including building infrastructure in the State, and, particularly in the world’s largest mangrove forest as also the lone reserve for the Royal Bengal Tiger.

According to the MoU, the two State organisations and EmaarMGF will work towards expanding West Bengal’s tourism portfolio and develop existing tourist destinations, including that in the Sunderbans, and also set up new ones. The primary focus under the agreement will be the hospitality units — the budget segment and theme tourism.

According to Mr Sanjiv Rai, COO (Hospitality) of EmaarMGF: “The company’s focus on hospitality aligns with the Government vision to position Bengal as a Gateway to the East for inbound as well as outbound tourists and travellers”.
