APMC asks traders to shift to Baikampady

Mangalore, April 6 The Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) here has urged the traders operating at Bunder area in the city to shift their operations to Baikampady in Mangalore.

Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, Mr K. Krishnaraja Hegde, President of APMC, Mangalore, said that the committee has a market yard on 80 acres of land at Baikampady. Nearly Rs 30 crore was spent on providing necessary infrastructure facilities at the yard.

In a notification dated April 27, 2007, the Karnataka Government had declared Baikampady area as the notified market yard. According the notification, all the traders dealing in 113 notified commodities will have to shift their operations to the yard in Baikampady from the city.

Licences

Based on this, the APMC has renewed the licences of traders operating from Baikampady area. Applications of traders who sought licences to trade outside Baikampady area have been rejected.

Mr D. Satish Kumar, Secretary of APMC, said nearly 570 applications were received for renewal of licences. Of them, around 150 applications were renewed to trade in Baikampady market yard area.

Mr Hegde said that APMC earned a total revenue of Rs 3.06 crore during 2007-08. The total expenditure during the period was Rs 1.91 crore, he added.
