BHEL Hyderabad records 15% rise in turnover

Hyderabad, April 4 Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd’s (BHEL) Hyderabad unit has recorded a 15 per cent increase in turnover for the financial year ended March 31, 2008 to Rs 3,321 crore against Rs 2,895 crore achieved in the fiscal 2006-07.

Its profit before tax rose 22 per cent to Rs 801 crore (Rs 656 crore) for the fiscal under review.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr G.V. Rami Reddy, Executive Director of the Hyderabad unit, said, “For the current financial year, we have set a turnover target of Rs 4,321 crore, representing a 30 per cent increase over the previous year.”

According to him, the orders on hand are worth Rs 8,766 crore and the corporate order book position is at Rs 50,265 crore.

Turnover target

The unit, Mr Reddy said, is also gearing up to achieve a turnover of Rs 7,000 crore by 2011-12. “Some of new products that we will introduce to achieve this turnover are gas turbines for gas transportation projects and IGCC applications, air cooled condensers, pumps for nuclear power plants, pulverizes for non-coal applications, oil rigs with AC drives 800 KV switchgears and a couple of others,” he added.

The unit during the year commissioned the Fr-5 Gas turbine at Konark Metcoke Ltd on coke oven gas. Also compressor trains involving variable speed gear coupling was commissioned at the Lekhwari, Yibal and Marmul sites for PDO Oman was commissioned during the year under review.

“The updated Fr-9E Gas Turbine based power plants at Mukhaizna and Qarn Alam were commissioned for the company. We have also entered into a technical collaboration with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd for pumps for higher rating and super critical applications,” Mr Reddy said.
