Outlook Yamaha plans slew of higher capacity bikes Our Bureau Hyderabad, April 4 Yamaha Motor India has lined up a slew of launches including two more bikesin the 150 and 160 cc category later this year. The company, which now has four models in the 100 cc category, recently launched two bikes in the 125 cc executive range and plans to expand the product offering to cater to a much wider range of buyers. The Regional Head of Yamaha Motor India, Mr Roy Kurian, said that the company is on a major expansion mode and is aiming at a 10 per cent market share in India, up from the current 2.5 per cent, within two years. Addressing a press conference here, Mr Kurian said that the company recently rolled out the Gladiator range in two variants and thereby entering the hitherto untapped executive bike segment, which has emerged as the fastest growing category in India. “We are a late entrant into the market but as we roll out bikes in other segments such as the executive-class bikes, we would be able to gradually make inroads into the competition. Backed by a network of over 400 dealers, we now cover the length and breadth of the country. This will add to buyers confidence,” he said. The company manufacturing base is being expanded to produce more models. “Even though we account for very high volumes of scooter sales globally, the current focus in India is centred around motorcycles. May be at a later date we would look at this segment,” he said. More Stories on : Outlook | Two/Three Wheelers
