Employment Industry & Economy - Real Estate & Construction Real estate, pharma cos’ hiring from ISB doubles
On the growth of salaries, the ISB functionary said in some sectors like real estate and pharma, they were nearly doubled while in other sectors, the growth was significant. G. Naga Sridhar Hyderabad, March 30 The interest shown by real estate, pharma and healthcare companies in hiring graduates from Indian School of Business (ISB) for top executive positions has been growing, as the placements data indicate. The number of offers and pay packages from these sectors in the just-concluded campus placement programme for Class of 2008 has nearly doubled, compared to the previous year, Mr V.K. Menon, Director, Career Advancement, ISB, told Business Line here on Sunday. “The real estate, pharma and healthcare offers were quite noticeable last year. But they are phenomenal this year, with 37 and 31 offers from top real estate and pharma companies respectively,” Mr Menon said. While the number may not appear significant when placed against the 415 students (out of 425 in 2008 class) who participated in the campus placements, the 100 per cent growth over the previous year points to these sectors as potential recruiters, he observed. IT, consultancyThe offers from information technology and financial consultancy firms were also substantial this year. “However, they did not grow from the previous year. It will take a couple of days for us to tabulate all figures,” he said. Many global IT and consultancy firms like Microsoft, Google and Satyam took part in the placement programme. On the impact of the slowdown in the US economy in the context of the sub-prime crisis, Mr Menon said the enthusiastic participation from US-based IT majors and their hiring did not take any hit. “For us, there is no adverse impact of the US sub-prime crisis and economy slow down,” he said. Salary growthOn the growth of salaries, the ISB functionary said in some sectors like real estate and pharma, they were nearly doubled while in other sectors, the growth was significant. “This is quite noticeable in the first placement offers to our graduates. A clear picture will emerge after examination of the second offers,” he said. As a policy, ISB allows each graduate to participate and bag two placement offers from different companies and make their own choice. The exact quantification in pay package growth cannot be made as ISB desists from making public the individual salary offers to its students.
