SCI pays Rs 101.78 cr interim

New Delhi, March 28

Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) today paid Rs 101.78 crore to the Government as interim dividend for the 2007-08 fiscal. According to an official release, the Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Mr T.R. Baalu, received the cheque from Mr S. Hajara, Chairman & Managing Director of the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), for the 45 per cent interim dividend declared by the company.

SCI is the largest shipping company in India, owning a fleet of 79 ve ssels of deadweight of 4.76 million tonnes, (comprising 39 tankers, 20 bulk carriers, 10 offshore vessels, 3 liner vessels, 3 chemical carriers, 2 LPG/ Ammonia carriers and 2 passenger carriers) which represent about 33 per cent of India’s tonnage, it said. In addition, SCI also manages 50 vessels on behalf of ONGC and other Government departments. It has on order 28 ships of about 2.4 million deadweight worth over Rs 6,000 crore comprising of 2 VLCCs (which are currently the largest ships on order by any Indian shipping company) and several other vessels. The company plans to acquire 62 ships during the 11th Plan period.
