ONGC to shut down South Bassein gas field for 15 days

Our Bureau

Kolkata, Feb. 27 ONGC plans 15-day production shutdown of its giant South Bassein gas field beginning March 1 to operationalise new platform. This will be the second production shutdown in South Bassein since January. The field produces approximately 12-13 million standard cubic metre of natural gas a day.

According to sources, ONGC is tying up new booster platforms along with its two existing processing platforms BP-A and BP-B to maintain production from this ageing field. While one such new platform was operationalised in January, the other platform would be operationalised in March.

Output at PMT may rise

The shutdown of South Bassein, however, will offer an opportunity to Reliance-British Gas-ONGC consortium to increase production of Panna-Mukta-Tapti gas fields up to 19.5 mmscmd.

The gas produced by PMT and South Bassein are processed at ONGC’s Hazira facility which is suffering from a capacity constraint.
