Re-look tax structure on DTH sector

The tax structure pertaining to the DTH sector be given a fresh look and the taxation level be brought at a reasonable level compatible with other countries. The rationalisation of tax regime for DTH industry would ensure multi-fold growth for the Revenue because the potential growth of DTH promotes complete addressability and leads to not only additional revenue but also permanent streams of revenues in form of annuities. In view of the multilateral taxation effect, and while it suffers entertainment tax from the states, the DTH industry be given differential treatment in application service tax to bring the same to 6 per cent. The excise duty on the set top boxes be brought to 8 per cent from 16 per cent.
