Virgin Atlantic soon to announce its Indian telecom venture

Ashwini Phadnis

London, Feb 24

The Virgin Atlantic group is expected to make an announcement about its Indian telecom venture this week, according to officials at Virgin Atlantic in London.

The President of Virgin Atlantic, Sir Richard Branson, is to travel to India this week to meet with one or two leaders of the Indian aviation industry and also to make the announcement.

“I will go to India this week and look at the small print in the aviation sector. As far as we know, the Indian Government has not changed the rules about investing in airlines in India based on our application,” Sir Richard Branson said when asked whether he had received any response from the Indian Government on his earlier application.

At the moment, airlines are not allowed to invest either directly or indirectly in the domestic aviation sector.
