Dust tea prices steady at Kochi sales

Kochi, Feb. 21 Most dust tea varieties were steady at the Kochi tea auction. High priced CTC were barely steady to easier, medium CTC was steady to dearer while orthodox dust remained steady at last week’s levels. Exporters continued to operate on medium grainier grades. Blenders were active on good liquoring teas while loose tea trade lent useful price support.

Best CTC dust fetched Rs 62-74, medium CTC quoted at Rs 56-63 and below medium was at Rs 49-53. High grown BOPD ranged at Rs 93-111, medium BOPD was at Rs 49-50 and secondaries fetched Rs 43-45.

Leaf Sale

There was 2,31,000 kg of leaf tea on offer at the auction. High grown whole leaf grades remained steady. Prices of bolder broken and high priced smaller broken varieties tended to ease. Other high grown smaller broken and fanning prices remained steady. Medium orthodox primaries quoted firm while other mediums remained steady. Medium orthodox primaries remained firm to sometimes dearer. Other medium varieties remained steady. CTC varieties were steady around last week’s levels. Medium orthodox witnessed better export enquiry. CTC smaller grades also generated good amount of export enquiry.

Best Nilgiri varieties quoted at Rs 90-110, medium orthodox fetched Rs 60-80 and plain orthodox was at Rs 44-54. Best CTC leaf fetched Rs 55-60 while medium CTC leaf was at Rs 48-55.

Top Prices

In the dust segment, Kodanad BOPD fetched the top price at Rs 111, followed by Parkside BOPDS at Rs 92, Pasuparai FD at Rs 90 and Manalaar SFD at Rs 83.
