‘Export target will be realised’

Aravindan

Kottayam, Feb. 21 The target to export 50,000 tonnes of rubber this year will materialise said Mr Sajen Peter, Chairman, Rubber Board. Addressing a meeting of the exporters convened at the Rubber Board, he hoped — as the exporters had already entered into several contracts till March 2008 — the expected target could be fully achieved. Since the international price was ruling high, the rate of export has increased recently. During the current fiscal, 37,880 tonnes were exported till February 19. Of this 18,800 tonnes were exported during December-February.

Production might come down during summer, the meeting assessed. The meeting suggested stringent measures to ensure the quality of the rubber exported. To maintain high standards and to ensure quality aspects, steps are in progress to have a centralised arrangement.

Not only that, when the work of the dehumidified godowns — to preserve rubber without any damage — is completed in a year, rubber producers would be able to overcome the volatility in the market to a certain extent, the Chairman informed the meeting.
