Railways SE Rly freight loading up 11.5% Our Bureau Kolkata, Feb. 21 In the first 10 months of the current fiscal (April to January 2007-08), South Eastern Railway posted 11.5 per cent growth in originating freight loading at 90.5 million tonnes, according to a press release. In January alone, the loading was 10.5 mt, which was the best ever loading in a single month. Iron ore accounted for the bulk of the freight traffic, an estimated 55 mt in the period under review, posting a growth of 18 per cent vis-À-vis the same period last year. The average daily loading in January was 55 rakes as compared to 46 rakes in the same month last year. The other items of loading included coal (15.2 mt), pig iron and finished steel (9.2 mt), cement (5.13 mt), raw materials (except iron ore) for steel plants (1.6 mt) and general merchandise (2.3 mt).
