Thrust to industry

I strongly agree with the views expressed in the article “To arrest industrial slow down move manufacturing into higher gear” (Business Line, February 9).

The government does seem to be partial to certain sectors — as a result some others which are significant to the over-all development of the country suffer.

Paper plays a very pivotal role in the education of the country and will continue to do so. No illiterate country can ever become a super-power, which is the dream of every citizen of India. Paper has direct linkages with education. Education is important not only for the economic but also the over-all development of the country.

It is quite surprising to note that when education enjoys such primacy with the government, which is apparent from the Government’s literacy drive, then why does the paper industry and its ancilliary sectors continue to take a backseat.

I feel the government needs to seriously focus on the development of the paper industry to bring about a social and economic transformation in the country.
