Better search engine: Yahoo takes Infosys along

Our Bureau

Mumbai, Feb. 15 The quest for an all-encompassing search engine continues, according to Mr Qi Lu, Executive Vice-President, Engineering Search and Search Marketing, Yahoo! Inc. Watch out for better search engine, he says.

As someone who has spent nearly 10 years at Yahoo! witnessing rapid technology changes, Mr Lu said “this time the development is through a series of collaborative initiatives with the likes of Infosys Technologies, with whom we are working on some important aspects”.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Nasscom Leadership Forum in Mumbai he said, this time around vendors’ contribution will also form a key element of development, being driven by collaborative approaches with partners and alliances.

The new economy

According to him, the search engine — call it Search 2.0 — needs to keep changing to factor various aspects of rich media experience. Significantly, the search would also encompass a voice-based, natural languages interface enabling a mobile phone user to have access to information.

As a part of the development ecosystem, Yahoo! believes in joint development, discoveries and research. Work with Infosys is one such example, he said.
