Trade & Labour Unions Port, dock workers demand 15% interim relief Our Bureau Kochi, Feb 6 Five recognised major federations of the port and dock workers in the country have demanded that the port and dock workers should be paid 15 per cent of the Basic Pay as interim relief with effect from January 1, 2007 subject to certain conditions. The Federations demanded that if any other public sector undertaking gives more than 15 per cent inclusive of DA, the same enhanced rate should be made applicable to port and dock workers also. The demand of the Federations was raised at the meeting of the Bipartite Wage Negotiating Committee which met in New Delhi on Wednesday, a press release issued here said. Mr S.R. Kulkarni, President of the All-India Port and Dock Workers Federation, said that all the five federations have put forward their joint claim in the larger interest of the port and dock workers. He, however, cautioned that if the legitimate claim for interim relief is not accepted by the port authorities and the Government, the Federations would stick to their original demand that interim relief should be paid at the rate of 25 per cent of Basic Pay plus dearness allowance.
