New Products & Services Hyderabad company launches new electric two-wheeler The bike, christened as Elektra 2.5, would run with a maximum power of 240 watts on a 12v X 4 battery. Our Bureau Hyderabad, Jan. 23 The Hyderabad-based CAL-ON Motors has launched a battery-powered two-wheeler in sub-0.25 kw category. The bike, christened as Elektra 2.5, would run with a maximum power of 240 watts on a 12v X 4 battery that needs to be recharged for every 70 km drive, Mr A. Suresh Babu, Managing Director, CAL-ON, told newspersons here on Wednesday. “In fuel efficiency, Elektra would cost Rs 8 per 70 km as against Rs 75 in any other petrol-run two-wheeler in the market. It has a weight of 110 kg with a payload capacity of 120 kgs,” Mr Babu said. The bike would run with a maximum speed of 25 km per hour. “The idea in limiting the maximum speed at 25 km is to avoid the hassles of compulsory registration and driving licence,” he said. Plugging in a domestic 230 volts domestic socket for about four to six hours can charge the battery of the bike. The company would soon bring the recharging period to about one hour, he added. The Pune-based Automobile Recharge Association has approved the vehicle, he said. The R&D team of the company was involved in designing of Elektra for the last 18 months and Rs 3.5 crore had been invested in developing the bike, Mr Babu said. The CAL-ON Group, which has four companies in electronic weighing instruments, engineering projects, marketing and motors, had a turnover of Rs 5 crore last fiscal. Over the next three months, an upgraded version of Elektra with a maximum speed of 50 kmph would be rolled out, he added. Elektra 2.5 is priced at Rs 33,500 excluding four per cent life tax.
