More women entrepreneurs to benefit from welders training

Tiruchi tech institute extends the programme


Trainees would be familiarised with blueprint reading, the ways of identifying defects in welding, and the sequence of carrying out complicated welding in shortest time.

Tiruchi, Jan. 8 The National Institute of Technology - Tiruchi (NIT-T) has come forward to offer its welders training course to yet another batch of the Women Entrepreneurs’ Association of Tamil Nadu (WEAT).

The Director of NIT-T, Mr M. Chidambaram, while speaking at the valediction of the five-day course offered to women here on Monday, said that the third batch would be trained at the earliest.

The training was offered at the Welding Laboratory of the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (MME), under the aegis of Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme Community Services.

Mr Chidambaram distributed certificates of appreciation to the participants in the presence of Mr Ramachandran, General Manager-Production, G.B. Engineering Enterprises Pvt. Ltd; Mr N. Manimekalai, Director, Centre for Women’s Studies, Bharathidasan University; Ms Rani Muralidharan, WEAT President, and Mr T. Srinivasa Rao, Professor and Head, Department of MME.

Realising the potential for women entrepreneurship in fabrication sector in the wake of heavy attrition of men workforce, the WEAT had already facilitated its members oriented towards starting 22 fabrication units.

The aim is to fulfil the formalities of signing partnership deeds and SSI registration to undertake job works for BHEL in a matter of months.

In the meantime, the association has prevailed upon G.B. Engineering Enterprises to enhance the expertise of the trainees.

During the course of on-the-job training, the trainees would also be familiarised with blueprint reading, the ways of identifying defects in welding, and the sequence of carrying out complicated welding in shortest time, Mr. Ramachandran said delivering the valedictory address.

Ms Rani said that women by virtue of their patience and ability for concentration were better suited for entrepreneurship and that women’s active participation in economic activities was imperative for accelerating the country’s development.
