Central team to visit rain-hit areas

Tiruchi, Jan. 8

A central team would visit the district shortly to inspect various places affected by heavy rains that lashed last month, the Collector, Mr Ashish Vachhani, said on Monday. The district administration has identified 15 rain-affected places including Vengur, Pullambadi, Kariamanickam and Gunaseelam where the team would be taken, he said while speaking to reporters here. The administration had already collected information regarding the extent of damage due to the heavy down pour. The State Government had sanctioned an additional amount of Rs one crore apart from the Rs 5 crore granted already as interim emergency assistance to carry out restoration works in the rain-affected places. The amount had already been sanctioned to River Conservation, Ariyar Divisions, District Rural Development Agency, Corporation, two municipalities and the town panchayats. —
