CAT results declared
New Delhi, Jan. 8
Close to one per cent of the 2.3 lakh aspiring business
managers have cleared the Common Admission
Test. The result for the examination conducted on
November 18 last year, was declared on Tuesday. About
5,000 management aspirants will be able to get admission
to the seven IIMs, including IIM Shillong, which will
start functioning from the coming academic session.
About a 100-odd management schools across the country
also use the CAT scorecard for their student intake. The
total number of seats for the six IIMs stands at 1,400.
"Out of the vast number of initial aspirants, only 2.5 per
cent or around 5,000 will get short listed for group
discussion and personal interviews. According to early
indications, only close to one per cent of the 2.3 lakh
candidates who appeared for CAT have been short-listed
by the IIMs for the next round of personality
assessment," Mr Deekshant Sahrawat of MBA guru,
Roots Education said. The number of students with prior
work experience has also gone up significantly. The IIMs
will prepare a list of students on the basis of their
performance who will be invited for group discussion and
personal interviews. According to an IIM-L official, last
year an estimated 1.2 per cent of the applicants had
cleared the CAT. The number of aspirants this year has
gone up by almost 20 per cent. - Our Bureau
