Kolkata, Dec. 13 The West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (WBSEDCL) plans to invest approximately Rs 400 crore for improving its distribution system during the next one year.

Talking to newspersons after an interactive session with the West Bengal Cold Storage Association here on Thursday, the WBSEDCL Managing Director, Mr Moloy Kumar De, said that the investments would be made towards improving the voltage profile in the State and checking distribution losses.

The project includes installation of capacitors, feeder relocation and others.

On the ongoing power shortage, he said that the State was facing 300-400 MW supply-demand mismatches during the peak hours.

“We expect the situation to continue for another two months,” Mr De added.

JBIC loan

On the overall improvement in transmission and distribution system in the State he said the Rs 540-crore Japanese Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) loan may flow in the State for improvement of the transmission network in SEB command area.

WBSEDCL was created out of unbundling of the erstwhile West Bengal State Electricity Board with effect from April, 2007.

While distribution was handed over to WBSEDCL, West Bengal State Electricity Transmission Company Ltd was handed over the control of the transmission network.

Generation was previously unbundled to West Bengal Power Development Corporation Ltd.
