Keane bets big on hiring freshers

Anjali Prayag

Bangalore, Dec. 12 IT services firm Keane which was taken over by Caritor, an IT solutions provider, is looking at fresh talent to move into its next phase of growth in the country.

Mr Raja Sekharan, Senior Vice-President, Keane India, said that grooming talent from within yields lowers attrition rates.

Every year, Keane India hires about 80 per cent of its talent pool from campuses across the country. About 20 per cent of the employees are laterals, out of which 10 per cent are in non-IT recruitment and the rest in niche areas of IT services. The company currently has about 7,600 employees in the country.

In 2007, Keane visited 250 Tier I and Tier II tech schools and hired 5,600 engineers and MCAs. The company has also hired 400 freshers for its BPO business in the country.

But with heavy dependence on campus hires, comes the issue of making students more employable, says Mr Sekharan. “We want to achieve this through faculty training because we believe that this will have a better impact and on a larger pool of students.”

Keane is currently running the Platinum Partners Programme with the 30 top colleges that it hires from. The programme entails improving the quality of education to engineering students.
