Chennai port box trailer movement hit

Our Bureau

Chennai, Dec. 12 Movement of container trailers entering and leaving the Chennai port has been affected due to collapse of two ‘manholes’ on Lotus Ramasamy Street, which is the main route used by vehicles through harbour’s gate 2A. Every day, around 1,300 vehicles pass through this street.

The vehicles are now being routed through gate 1 of the port. Lotus Ramasamy Street is expected to be serviceable again by December 16, according to a Chennai Container Terminal press release.

This is the second such incident happening outside the port in the last couple of months disrupting movement of container trailers in and out of the port. The disruption means there will be more delays in evacuation of containers from the port. Already there is a container surcharge at the Chennai Container Terminal, and the situation will only worsen due to disruption caused by the damaged ‘manholes’.
