BGR Energy to foray into EPC biz in power

Chennai, Dec 4 BGR Energy is planning to offer engineering, procurement, construction’ services in the power sector.
The Chennai-based BGR Energy Systems Ltd, whose initial public offering is opening on Wednesday, has an order book of Rs 3,330 crore, the company’s Chairman and Managing Director, Mr B.G. Raghupathy, said at a press conference here.
As much as 82 per cent of the orders are from the power sector. Another 16 per cent is from the oil and gas sector. A third of the orders would be executed by March. Another 60 per cent would be executed next financial year, Mr Raghupathy said. Last year, about 70 per cent of the company’s turnover of Rs 770 crore came from the power sector.
BGR Energy manufactures most of the equipment for a power project, other than boilers, turbines and generators.
Officials said that BGR Energy (formerly, GEA Energy) has so far been in manufacturing of products, but now the company intends to provide ‘engineering, procurement, construction’ services also. BRG Energy proposes to use the funds from its IPO for working capital and to establish manufacturing bases in Bahrain and China.
