Dutch co DSM ties up with Arch Pharma

Our Bureau

Mumbai, Dec 4 The Netherlands-based multi-speciality company DSM has entered into a manufacturing agreement with Mumbai-based Arch Pharmalabs to make generic active pharmaceutical ingredients (API).

The agreement builds on a relationship that Arch Pharmalabs forged when it started eight years ago – DSM was its first and key customer. The manufacturing deal would also strengthen DSM’s generics portfolio of innovation molecules that targets $1 billion sales by 2010.

DSM Anti Infectives (DAI), a wholly owned subsidiary of the $11 billion DSM Group, will provide the patented technology to Arch Pharma for further development of non-infringing processes, said Mr Hans Van Nistelrooij, DAI’s Vice-President. While DSM’s portfolio predominantly consists of anti-infectives, the agreement seeks to broaden the technology to other areas like cardio-vascular, immuno-suppressants and statins, he said. The deal will also support DSM’s global customer base, he added.
