Madurai, Nov. 29 The Sattur Chamber of Commerce and Industry has stressed the need for double line track via Madurai between Chennai and Nagercoil.

In a letter addressed to the Union Minister of State for Railways, Mr R.Velu, the General Secretary of the Chamber, Mr P.T.K.A. Balasubramanian, has said that absence of double line via Madurai has put passengers into lot of difficulties — no new trains are run on the route, connecting trains cannot be reached on time and special trains are forced to stop at many places to allow the regular ones and thus reach the destinations very late.

He has urged the Government to expedite the survey for double lining and electrification of the route and allot in the first phase Rs 1,000 crore for the purpose.
