New Karnataka energy plan

Bangalore, Nov 22

Installation of solar water heating systems has been made mandatory in various categories of buildings in the State. Existing buildings have been exempted from the decision and only new buildings will be brought under the rule, said a notification issued by the Government. The Government has also banned the use of incandescent bulbs in new government buildings and institutions. It said use of compact fluorescent lamps will be compulsory in these buildings. The notification also said in existing buildings the defective incandescent bulbs should be replaced with CFL. The decision follows a campaign started under the Energy Conversation Act 2001, which mandates all States to conduct awareness programmes before enacting a statute. _
