Our Bureau

New Delhi, Nov. 7 The Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, on Wednesday chaired a meeting of representatives from the Power and Heavy Industries Ministries to take stock of the preparedness to achieve the power capacity addition target of 78,577 MW set for the current Plan period.

According to official sources, utilities under both the ministries, namely NTPC Ltd and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), presented their positions. There was a broad consensus that in the first year of the current Plan firm capacities of at least 12,000 MW should be targeted for completion by the end of the current year.
