Ashok Leyland Sept sales down

Chennai, Oct. 6

Ashok Leyland’s sales for September were down close to 13 per cent compared with that of the same month last year. As in the case of the last three months, this month saw a pick up in sales of buses. The goods segment, which is sometimes seen as an indicator of the performance of the economy, continued to be depressed. The industry feels that the slowdown in commercial vehicles sales is due to rising interest rates, which dampens new truck purchases. —
