Hyderabad IT Summit in March

V. Rishi Kumar

Hyderabad, Sept. 11 The Information Technology and Communication (IT&C) Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh has floated a tender for an event manager for the proposed Hyderabad IT Summit 2008. The event is planned to be hosted in March 2008.

Representatives of Nasscom, IT trade body Hysea and others are likely to coordinate for the proposed IT Summit. In the meantime, there are indications that the flagship IT event Gitex, co-hosted by the arm of Dubai World Trade Centre and the State IT&C Department in January each year since 2001 may not have Dubai and DWTC as partner in 2008.

Instead, the Department is likely to host a similar event— IT Summit —all by itself, according to indications given by the touring AP delegates in Dubai recently.

According to official sources, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has pulled the plug on the event that is being co-hosted in Hyderabad. The Gitex was launched immediately after the 9/11 incident and had concurrent events of computer shopper and related technology conference. The earlier events attracted participation by some of technology companies including Microsoft, Satyam, Sony, Siemens among others.
