Bajaj Electricals enters UPS biz

Pune, Aug.23

Bajaj Electricals Ltd (BEL) is entering the business of Un-interrupted Power Supply (UPS) for homes with a range of inverters which will be first launched in Pune and then nationally. Four models - two each of sine wave and square wave systems - are being introduced initially, and more will be added in time. They will be manufactured in Himachal Pradesh where the appliances business unit has third party manufacturing agreements at two locations.

Mr P.S. Tandon, President, Appliances, said that while square wave inverters dominated the market today, the company would make a strong effort to promote the sign wave type of inverter. It is studying customer requirements to find out the needs and fill in the gaps, before going into mass production, he added. The inverters, that will cost between Rs 5900 and Rs 8900 exclusive of the battery will be sold through direct marketing and be distributed through battery outlets as well. The company is also tying-up with battery manufacturer Amaron for both sale of UPS and the battery installation and servicing. - Our Bureau
