Our Bureau Mumbai, Aug. 9 Worldspace Satellite Radio has entered into a tie-up to launch five of its radio stations on MSN India. The five stations — Farishta (Hindi film classics), Sparsha (Kannada), Spandana (Telugu), Gandharv (Hindustani classical) and Shruti (Carnatic Music) will be available at in.msn.com/worldspace for $9.9 per month. High subscription cost
Customers are being charged a relatively high cost of subscription as the companies pay copyright for the artistes whose works are made available through this initiative, according to Mr Jaspreet Bindra, Country Manager of MSN India & Windows Live. The company intends to target both NRI and Indian residents through this initiative. “This offering is in line with our focus on entertainment and education in India. For non-resident Indians, we shall be publicising this initiative abroad,” added Mr Bindra. Music director A.R. Rehman is the brand ambassador for Worldspace, which currently has about 1.7 lakh subscribers in India. “Down the line, we intend to bring all 43 channels of Worldspace on MSN,” said Mr Krishna Prasad, Executive Producer, MSN India.
