Outlook Bosch hopes to sell 1.3 m units by 2010
K. Giriprakash Nashik, Aug. 2 Bosch expects to sell 1.3 million complete units of its marquee product, the common rail injection systems in India by 2010. The Mico-Bosch Managing Director, Dr Albert Hieronimus, told newspersons on the occasion of the roll out of the indigenously manufactured rail injectors for the common rail systems from its Nashik plant, that Bosch sold about 40,000 common rail systems in 2006. He said globally, Bosch sold about 6.8 million systems and expects to sell about 8 million this year. He said the Nashik plan will produce 1 lakh complete rail injectors for the system this year which is expected to touch 3.5 million by 2010. He said the company has invested about Rs 350 crore for the manufacture of injectors from the Nashik plant. Bosch had announced that it would invest up to Rs 1,800 crore between 2005 and 2008 for several new products including the common rail systems. Dr Hieronimus also disclosed that Bosch was able to buy only about 9.5 per cent out of 20 per cent of the stake it had sought to mop up from the public during its open offer which concluded recently. It shelled out over Rs 13 crore for mopping up 9.5 per cent which took Bosch stake in Mico to 70 per cent. Bosch had also increased the offer price to Rs 4,500 from Rs 4,000 to make the offer more attractive. Dr Hieronimus said that some of the components for the common rail systems were being exported countries like South Korea and even to Germany. He said the Asia-Pacific region contributes 16 per cent of the total sales of Bosch globally. Mico Bosch Joint Managing Director, Mr M. Lakshminarayan said the company’s focus will be to sell most of its products manufactured in India in the domestic market itself. Mico which is its flagship in India posted turnover of Rs 3,783.70 crore in 2006, Bosch Chasis System contributed Rs 477.80 crore, Robert Bosch India Rs 532.40 crore and Bosch Rexroth about Rs 217 crore.
