BSNL union opposes VRS

New Delhi, Aug. 1

BSNL Employees Union on Wednesday opposed the management’s proposal for Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) of 20,000 employees and threatened to go on agitation if the proposal was not dropped.

“We strongly protests against this anti-worker proposal and demand that the management immediately drop the same, failing which the union will be compelled to go on agitation to safeguard the job security of the employees,” a release by th e union said. It said there was no necessity to impose VRS or Compulsory Retirement Scheme (CRS). It pointed out that the proposal had not even been placed before the staff in the National Council for consideration. “The management has no authority to take such decisions without consulting the staff and the recognised union,” it said.

The statement comes a day after BSNL’s outgoing CMD, Mr A.K. Sinha, said that the telecom PSU had sought DoT’s nod for VRS for 20,000 employees-
