Security States - Kerala Web portal, call centre to tackle cyber crime
Our Bureau Thiruvananthapuram, July 30 The Kerala State IT Mission has launched a Web portal and a call centre to tackle cyber crime. Formally launched at a function in the city on Monday, the Web site www.cyberkeralam.in and the call centre (telephone number 0471-2727004) are intended to prevent cyber crime and also disseminate information on cyber crime, explained Mr K.R. Jyothilal, Secretary-IT, Government of Kerala. The site has been developed with the assistance of the Resource Centre for Cyber Forensics at the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) Thiruvananthapuram, he added. The IT Mission has plans to deploy e-mail tracer software at all the Akshaya centres in the State, Mr Jyothilal said. Also on the cards is a proposal to install cyber forensic tools developed by C-DAC Thiruvananthapuram in 100 police stations in the State, said Mr Rajan T. Joseph, Executive Director, C-DAC Thiruvananthapuram. According to Mr K. Anvar Sadath of the IT Mission, the growing usage of the Internet in the State has increased the possibility of cyber crime. The Cyberkeralam portal and the call centre are part of the State Government’s efforts to control cyber crime. For now, the cyber crime call centre will function from 9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. from Monday to Friday, he added. The site provides visitors with information on how they can deal with a cyber crime and has facilities for reporting a cyber crime. However, users will have to register with the site if they want to report a cyber crime. The site also has general information on what cyber crime is, preventable measures, procedures to be followed while reporting a cyber crime, cyber forensics and so on.
