Commodity Markets Web Extras - Regulatory Bodies & Rulings Commodity markets will stabilise in 3-4 years: FMC Our Bureau
Hyderabad, July 28 The Forwards Markets Commission (FMC), the regulator for forwards markets under the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Distribution, foresees stabilisation of commodity markets in the next three-four years. "We are learning the problems and trying to find solutions and internalising them as we move ahead. Refinement will happen in due course," said the Chairman, Mr B.C. Khatua. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, he said expansion of the spectrum and participation of a wide variety of players in different commodities would help achieve equilibrium. Mr Khatua was here to meet various stakeholders such as farmers groups, chambers and management teams from different exchanges. Stating that the Commission lacked teeth in the absence of autonomy, he highlighted issues like quality assessment and lack of infrastructure. He said the Commission would look into all the issues faced by hedgers and facilitating their participation would be its priority. "We will make the life of hedgers easy."
