Human Resources Cisco to strengthen networking skills pool
Anjali Prayag Bangalore, July 17 Cisco India will strengthen its pool of advanced networking professionals in the next 2-3 years through increased academic relationships, developing talent from within the organisation and launching ‘nurseries’ for networking professionals. Mr Subash A.K. Rao, Director, Human Resources, Cisco Systems India, told Business Line that currently the company had less than 300 high-end networking experts. Demand for Level 3 and 4 experts called the CCIEs (Cisco Certified Internetworking Experts) would be close to 3,000 in a couple of years, thanks to the newer opportunities in the form of ‘mega deals,’ he said. West Asian projects
Smart city projects in West Asia particularly would require Indian networking skills and with the entire product range being developed from Bangalore, Cisco India is working on a blue print for acquiring/developing these skills within the organisation. “We also want to increase the number of labs for testing and certifying these professionals,” Mr Rao said. Plans include tie-ups with 4-5 universities for high-end certification programmes. Another potential talent pool would be short commission service officers from the defence services. IDC had reported a skilled people gap of around 60,000 in the networking area in 2006 and predicted this number to rise to around 1,37,200 by 2009. Advanced networking skills gap would be around 55,350 by 2009 and for general networking skills, it would be around 42,630.
