Cluster scheme: Ambattur body, UNIDO tie up

The Ambattur Industrial Estate
Manufacturers' Association
(AIEMA) and the United
Nations Industrial Development
Organisation (UNIDO)
have joined hands for cluster
development.
According to Mr M. Elumalai,
Chairman, AIEMA Technology
Centre, the target of the
project is a cluster-oriented
development of small and medium
enterprises in the industrial
sectors such as leather,
general engineering and automotive
components.
With AIEMA serving as the
local counterpart in the automotive
components cluster in
this context, UNIDO would
extend its expertise to establish
cooperation between Indian
and Italian clusters. It will
also provide assistance in promoting
investment and transfer
of technology and mutual
credit guarantee schemes, said
Mr Bruno Valanzuolo of UNIDO,
who is the Chief Technical
Advisor, Consolidated Project
for SME Development in
India.
According to Mr Valanzuolo,
the capacity and capabilities
of the government counterpart
and private support institutions
will be strengthened to
meet the needs connected with
cluster development. UNIDO
will also assist support institutions
to undertake training and
technical upgrading
programmes.
