The Petroleum & Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has been formally established by the Government. Mr L. Mansingh has taken over as the first Chairperson of the board while Mr L.K. Singhvi, Mr B.S. Negi and Ms Sudha Mahalingam have joined as members.

The Government has also approved the appointment of Mr Y.P.C. Dangay as member (Legal) of the board and he is likely to join soon, an official statement said. As per the statute, the PNGRB will regulate downstream activities in the sector - refining, processing, storage, transportation, distribution, marketing and sale of petroleum, petroleum products and natural gas - so as to protect the interests of consumers, entities engaged in specified activities, and to ensure uninterrupted and adequate supply. The board would also promote competition in the sector.
