Automobiles Industry & Economy - Two/Three Wheelers Two-wheeler sales continue to skid
Our Bureau New Delhi, July 2 The two- wheeler auto industry continues to take a hit with sales of both Hero Honda and Bajaj Auto Ltd reporting negative growth as against four wheelers that continue to record increase in sales. While Hero Honda sales declined by eight per cent at 2,55,200 units in June 2007, from 2,78,660 units during the same period, Bajaj Auto, recorded a 12 per cent decrease in its total two wheeler sales to 1,64,758 units in June (1,88,231 units). Bajaj saw a 12 per cent negative growth in motorcycles with its sales at 1,62,253 units and 11 per cent decrease in its three wheeler sales at 22,866 units. The company, however, increased its exports by 42 per cent with sales at 48,675 units as compared to 34,369 units in the same period last year. Passenger car
In the passenger car segment, however, Maruti Udyog Ltd on Monday reported a 25.48 per cent increase in its sales at 56,000 units in June 2007 as against 44,626 units in the corresponding period last fiscal. The company exported 3,917 units for June, a three per cent increase from 3,799 units in the same period last month. During June, the company witnessed highest growth in the A3 segment that includes models such as Esteem, SX4, by selling 3,923 units as against 2,680 units in the same period last year, reporting a jump of 46.4 per cent in sales. Maruti’s sales increased by 38.3 per cent in the A2 segment (Alto, Wagon R, Zen, Swift) at 37,646 units as compared to 24.0 per cent growth in the C segment (Omni, Versa) in which it sold 8,017 units. Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) sold 27,653 units, including16,335 units in the domestic market and 11,318 units in exports during June this year as compared to 27,251 units last year, recording a marginal increase of 1.4 per cent. General Motors
General Motors saw a 43 per cent increase in sales in June with sales at 4,779 units (3,346 units). This includes 1,550 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 1,227 units of Aveo, 498 units of Optra and 1,504 units of Spark . Honda Siel cars India sold 4,503 units in June (3,549 units), recording an increase of sales by 27 per cent. Skoda Auto sold 1,008 units during June (989 units).
