New Delhi June 20 The newly merged state-owned airline, Air India, is to start inducting the first of the six 70-seater Canadian Regional Jet aircraft (CRJ) from August this year.

"The airline has shortlisted six aircraft for being leased. These aircraft would operate on thin routes such as Delhi-Khajurao sector that do not have enough traffic for a 100-seater aircraft but can easily be used to fill up a 70-seater aircraft," the Airlines Joint Managing Director, Dr Vishwapati Trivedi, said on Tuesday.

An indicate list of 16 city pairs on which this type of aircraft could be used has been drawn up by Accenture, consultants hired to draw up a road map for the merger of Air India and Indian.

The aircraft, which are less than five year old, are being taken on lease from four different global leasing companies.

"The aircraft will operate in a single class configuration and some basic food service would be provided keeping in mind the short duration of the flights," Dr Trivedi added.
