New Delhi June 15 Sbarro Inc, the US-based Italian quick service restaurant chain, on Friday announced its foray into India through a joint venture with India-based Hotz Industries (India) Ltd. The joint venture entity will be called Sbarro Restaurants (India) Ltd.

"Our presence across the world is our USP. And, this is the right time for Sbarro to bring its unique age-old recipes to India. We will further customise our product offerings to suit Indian tastes and flavours with more vegetarian options," said Mr Peter Beaudrault, Chairman, CEO and President, Sbarro Inc. The company plans to open 10 outlets in India by the end of the fiscal year 2008, with an investment of $2-2.5 million. "Our long-term view is to open 100 stores in India with an investment of $20 million," said Mr Gaurav Jain, Director, Sbarro Restaurants (India) Ltd. Sbarro India plans to have a mix of company-owned and franchisee outlets at malls, multiplexes, offices, airports and high street locations. It opened its first outlet in Delhi, and will roll out stores at Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata and Bangalore by the end of the year.
