Our Bureau

New Delhi June 12 The Nasscom Foundation and Rural Marketing Agencies Association of India (RMAAI) are jointly organising a one-day seminar on `Rural ICT' here tomorrow.

The seminar aims to explore innovative approaches and channels to reach out to the rural markets, thus providing the quality of service within minimal costs.

The seminar would also discuss ways of providing appropriate ICT-based solutions to the rural market-related problems within the peripheries of a rural set-up.

"Rural folks are witnessing a new trend lately. Information and communication technologies are opening up the world to them in a way it has never done before.

"Rural marketing is being redefined within corporate circles.

"The seminar has been specifically designed to discuss and debate on how the corporates can create the most efficient ICT solutions to provide increase in rural incomes, employment and promote sustainable development," a statement said.

Rural teledensity

The seminar comes at a time when the rural teledensity is projected to increase from 0.7 per cent in 2001 to 14.5 per cent in 2010.

Landline and mobile connections in rural areas would grow at faster pace than in urban areas, and the Government is targeting to achieve 200 million rural phone connections by 2012.
