Descon, US co Jaintec tie up for design engineers

Our Bureau

Kolkata June 12 Descon Ltd, the Kolkata-based IT, ITES, CAD/GIS and power engineering consultancy company, has forged a tie-up with Jaintec of the US to generate "project-ready design engineers" in the region. A joint venture company, Jaintec-Descon Training Solutions, has been floated for the purpose.

Addressing a news conference here today, Mr S. Radhakrishnan, Managing Director, Descon Ltd, said students at Jaintec-Descon Training Solutions would be provided engineering design skills to make them more employable.

He quoted a recent Nasscom study which has stated that only one-fourth of the four-lakh engineering students graduating every year were employable. This was a cause for concern for both policy makers and industry, he said.

Lack of skilled manpower

Mr Radhakrishnan said the industry was faced with a huge gap between the demand and supply of qualified manpower, especially fresh engineering graduates with engineering design skills.

He said Jaintec was a US-headquartered company that has its offices in New Delhi and Dehradun. It offers engineering design and manufacturing services.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Ashish Kumar, CEO, Jaintec, said students at Jaintec-Descon Training Solutions would be provided training in CAD/CAM/CAE software. They would be provided comprehensive training to upgrade their design and engineering capabilities.

At the end of their training programmes, they would be able to work on platforms such as ProEngineer, AutoCAD, Solidworks, Unigraphics, PDS, Microstation, and so on.
