IOC refineries save Rs 39 crore

Our Bureau

New Delhi, June 5

The energy optimisation and hydrocarbon loss minimising systems implemented at Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOC) refineries have resulted in fuel savings of about 24,000 million tonnes per annum valued at approximately Rs 39 crore in 2006-07.

Speaking at the occasion of celebrating the World Environment Day, here today, the IOC Director (Refineries), Mr B.N. Bankapur, said that at IOC the emphasis is on energy optimisation in all activities and at all stages — right from process selection, design, engineering, commissioning, operation and maintenance. "Several state-of-the-art cleaner technologies have been deployed to reduce environmental burden by optimising use of resource and energy, minimising waste and increasing re-use in refinery operation," he said.

In a statement issued here, the company said that fuel savings also contribute to reduction in emission of carbon dioxide, which leads to reduction in global warming.
