New Delhi June 1 Reliance Communications and BSNL on Friday announced further reduction in international long distance calling rates on their pre-paid cards. Reliance has launched a new calling card worth Rs 2,250, which allows users to call the US and Canada at Rs 1.75 pre minute. BSNL has introduced a card for Rs 2,000, which offers ISD calls to North America at Rs 1.75 per minute. Tariffs for ISD calls to other destinations are also cheaper on this card compared to the calling cards of lower denominations. "While a majority of the calling happens to the US/Canada and Gulf regions, where the calling rates have been reduced further, we found that there was also a steady growth in calling to other parts of the world. This obviously can be attributed to the vast Indian diaspora, as also the expanding business interests of Indian companies across the world", said Mr S.P. Shukla-President, Personal Business-Reliance Communications. "Today's changes will vastly benefit individual subscribers and corporates who call Europe, South East Asia and other parts of the world," he added. BSNL said that under its CallNow card it was offering the cheapest rates. Last month Reliance Communications and other operators had announced a significant reduction in rates to the US/Canada to Rs 1.99 on calling cards. Today's announcement will spur further rate cuts by other operators. A cost-effective way to make international calls to any destination in the world offers a unique convenience of PINless dialling. Reliance Global Cards can be used on a Reliance Mobile and Hello - pre-paid or post-paid and are available in denominations of Rs 115, Rs 225, Rs 575, Rs 1,130, Rs 1,900 and now Rs 2,250 at over 200,000 retail outlets across India. Reliance Communications is rated among the Asia's six topmost valuable telecom companies and is India's foremost truly integrated telecommunications service provider.
The company has established a pan-India, next generation, integrated (wireless and wireline), convergent (voice, data and video) digital network that is capable of supporting best-of-class services spanning the entire Infocomm value chain, covering over 7,500 towns and 3,00,000 villages.
Reliance Communications owns and operates the world's largest next generation IP enabled connectivity infrastructure, comprising over 150,000 km of fibre optic cable systems in India, the US, Europe, West Asia and the Asia Pacific region. The company's subsidiary, FLAG Telecom owns the world's largest private undersea cable system, spanning 65,000 km and connects the top business centres in developed and emerging markets across six continents.
